Blog #12

1. Watch this video of Charles Vaught Poem and summarize your thoughts about it. Think about what he had to say, and tell if you agree or disagree with him.

I really agree with most of the ideas he had. He once said, "It's scary to know we once survived without technology". This is so true. But now it's like we totally depend on them for almost all of our enjoyment. I do believe the goal of technology was originally to free us some time. Being lazy, we took that idea and applied it to almost every aspect of life. By having so much technology, people are becoming less and less patient. People can't even stay in line at a red light for a long time without getting upset. When "back in the day" they didn't have lights. So it seem this impatience turns into being ungrateful. Although technology is yet advancing, who knows what it will implant into our blind minds?

  1. Carlis. Thanks for your comment on our classroom page in New Zealand. The instuments that you mentioned in seeing in the video are all traditional Maori instruments (the indigenous people of New Zealand) and are all extremely rare. We have a student from the University of Waikato with us at the moment, a trainee teacher and as a Maori teacher he has access to the instruments. The students using them are nearly all Maori and they are loving the connection with their culture so its been a invaluable learning experience for the students with something they wouldn't usually get access too. I will show the students your comment on Monday they are always thrilled to get feedback so thank you once again for your comment.

  2. Hey Carlis,
I really liked this video because everything he says is true and he does it in an entertaining way. He was very clever with his words and I agree that it's scary we once survived without technology. We wouldn't be able to do half the amount of things we are able to do in a day if it weren't for technology. Technology has not only made our lives easier and less chaotic, it has saved many people's lives. I really enjoyed this video, great job!

  3. I really like this idea for a blog post, only, I think we should have the students create a spoken word poem. His enthusiasm was key to his success, and I can only imagine how good it could be if we added some perspective from the camera and some possible video effects to make it even better. Great find.
